Gimmelwald Part 2: Schilthorn

Today was my last full day in Gimmelwald, Switzerland.  It has been raining nearly non-stop since I arrived.  Since it was my last day, rain or shine, I had to attempt the climb to Schilthorn peak.

On the trail to Schilthorn

Outside the town of Berg, almost to the top
The last 100 meters was dangerous enough to have a railing on both sides of the trail

I finally reached the summit and was rewarded with no views at all because of the cloud cover.  The trail was mostly mud on the way up and my hiking shoes were soaked, so I took the lift down.

What I saw
What you're supposed to see

Despite the rain, Gimmelwald was one of the most enjoyable places I’ve been in Europe.  It is just a very small, simple town in the Swiss Alps.  There are quite a few tourists at times, but you are usually alone on the trails.  Yesterday I hiked for about five hours without seeing another person.
